A mobile catering LPG inspection needs to cover the actual trailer or vehicle installation and the appliances in use. Records are often described as CP44 certificates, but a form name is not a substitute for safe equipment, correct maintenance and compliance with the conditions of the venue where you trade.
What does CP44 mean for your booking?
Ask which record the engineer will provide and whether it matches the requirements of your event organiser, insurer or local authority. The earlier description of CP44 as universally required by name and simply a renamed CP42 was too broad. The important questions are inspection scope, competence, findings and any outstanding actions.
Choose the appropriate engineer
Confirm the engineer's competence for LPG and mobile commercial catering equipment. A domestic boiler qualification alone is not enough. Supply an appliance list, fuel details, vehicle layout and previous inspection reports before the appointment.
Prepare the trailer
- Confirm safe access, parking and the working space needed for inspection.
- Discuss the gas supply and the requirements for operational testing in advance.
- Make appliances, cylinder storage, regulators and accessible pipework available.
- Tell the engineer about additions, relocated equipment, damage or changes since the last inspection.
- Keep manufacturer instructions and previous defect records ready.
Inspection, servicing and defects
A safety inspection records findings; servicing maintains equipment. Agree what each visit includes and how identified faults will be handled. An isolated faulty appliance does not automatically establish that every remaining part of the installation is acceptable.
Follow the engineer's advice on unsafe equipment and obtain a record of completed remedial work. A dated certificate cannot guarantee safety after subsequent changes or damage.
Get a current quotation
Ask whether the price includes each appliance check, servicing, travel, VAT and a return visit. The older examples on this page used different pricing assumptions and should not be relied on as a current offer.
